One win in the books and one – possibly – on the way.
UH-Hilo’s baseball game against Hawaii Pacific was suspended due to inclement weather Saturday and will be resumed at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with the Vulcans leading the Sharks 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning.
In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, UHH won 10-7.
Joe Gallagher hit a two-run homer as the Vulcans (23-13, 12-11 PacWest Conference) scored all of their runs in the first five innings.
Casey Yamauchi scored in the second inning off a center-fielder error which increased UHH’s lead 3-0. Jaryn Kanbara followed Gallagher’s example with a two-run homer of his own. Seniors Kanbara and Gallagher are tied for the most home runs on the team with five apiece.
Kyle Alcorn started (2-2) and pitched seven strong innings. Emon Velarde and Ty Honda came on in relief, and John Kea secured his 10th save after entering with two outs and bases loaded.
In the fourth, Gallagher and Kanbara once again delivered with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice fly by Ryan Cho sent Gallagher home . Two more singles by Lucas Sakay and Bradyn Yoshida accounted for the Vulcans final two runs of the inning (9-0).
The teams are also scheduled to play a nonconference doubleheader Sunday after the resumption of Saturday’s suspended contest.
